School Board Elections 

Nominating petition forms for the April 2, 2019, school board election for the Hiawatha Community Unit School District #426 are now available.  Persons interested in running for the Hiawatha Board of Education may obtain information on becoming a candidate by calling the County Clerk’s Office at 815/895-7147 or clicking on the following link:  http://dekalbcounty.org/Elections/index.html   (Click on Consolidated Election, then choose 2019 School Board Petition Packet)  The school board election is nonpartisan, and board candidates do not run under political party affiliation.

Four (4) seats on our seven-member Board of Education will be filled through this electoral process.  Two (2) members must reside within Franklin Township and two (2) member must reside in the remaining townships.  Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2023.  To be eligible to serve, a school board member must be on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.
