Welcome to Hiawatha Elementary School
We are going to spring into March with lots of fun reading!
We're thrilled to announce that our Read-A-Thon is underway! We're counting on you to make it a success. If you haven't already, please take a moment to activate your child’s personal reader page by clicking on the following link:

It only takes a minute or two, and your support will greatly assist us in meeting our financial goals.
Thank you for your help in reaching our goal.

Recess Procedures for Snow/Cold or Raining Days:
If it is raining, students will have indoor recess in the LRC.
If it is just wet outside, we will have the students stay on the blacktop or playground. Since the blacktop does have many spots where puddles collect we try our best to keep them out of the puddles but they usually end up with wet feet.
If it is snowing outside, we will let students play outdoors. If they have snow pants, boots, jackets, hats, & gloves then the student can play in the snow. If they are missing any of those items we will have them stay on the blacktop or playground.
If the temperature drops below 0 degrees (wind chill), we will have indoor recess in the LRC.
We ask that you send your students with winter gear (boots, snow pants, jackets, hats, & gloves), a change of shoes for PE, extra pants, and extra socks. No one likes to be wet and cold all afternoon, so if the student can change when recess is over that is ideal. We want to be able to allow the students to play and explore during recess but we need to make sure they are warm and comfortable for the remainder of the school day. If you need assistance with any winter gear please do not hesitate to reach out to the elementary office or our school counselor.
