Special Education

The Special Education Division offers a continuum of support services for students with disabilities. Students must have a current Individual Education Plan (IEP). Programs range from supports and services provided in regular education settings to functional and instructional academics provided in special education settings.

Special education services are provided within the least restrictive environment that is appropriate to meet the individual needs of each student. Placement decisions are made by the IEP team, consisting of the student, a parent or guardian, a social worker, regular and special education teachers, a school psychologist, district designee (Director of Student Services), and other support personnel, if appropriate. Each special education student is assigned a special education teacher who serves as case-manager to coordinate the services designated on the IEP.

Additional related services are coordinated by the Director of Student Services and may include the following:

  • Social work
  • Occupational and physical therapy
  • Paraprofessional support
  • Consultants working with the deaf or hard-of-hearing and/or visually impaired
  • Speech/language services
