The administration, faculty and staff of Hiawatha CUSD #426 are committed to supporting students with disabilities in an environment that is individualized, nurturing, challenging, and where access to the general education curriculum and facilities remain paramount to our K-12 programming. Through partnerships with our parents and community, Hiawatha strives to develop the whole child with the academic, social/emotional, and vocational skills needed to live as successful, contributing and independent adults in our community.

Hiawatha CUSD #426 provides our students quality education services through both school programming, intergovernmental agreements with neighboring districts/cooperatives as well as with private day school programs. Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the student (i) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (ii) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.
